GAME DINNER-TIME: On November 10th, the Portland Trail Blazers in collaboration with Providence Health & Services hosted thousands of our community's most critically challenged neighbors at the 16th Annual Harvest Dinner.
The Harvest Dinner was created to advocate for and serve our community’s homeless and underserved individuals and families.
The event has grown to serve more than 5,000 people and is known as one of the largest events of its kind in Portland.
For many years I've been one of the fortunate few to serve a Thanksgiving-style dinner alongside members of the Trail Blazers organization, community leaders and local media representatives. It was a wee bit strange to not see any of the player's on the Blazers current roster— the NBA lockout restricts contact between players and team officials —but I did get a chance to serve alongside coach Nate McMillan and alum players including Chris Dudley and Jerome Kersey.
Speaking of Mr. Dudley, it was quite the moment when a bosomy woman asked Chris to sign her "shirt." Always a good sport, Chris looked at her, a bit concerned, and said: "um....er...where?" That's when the gal pulled a Blazer t-shirt out of her bag and said ever-slyly: "here." Now that was a great "three-pointer," don't you think?
