MARRIAGE MATTERS: On Monday night, fresh off the plane from New York, my partner Juan and I, hustled our rumps to Artists Repertory Theatre to participate in "Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Wedding Plays."

The night of 10 ten-minute plays was orchestrated to coincide with 45 other theaters across the nation (and a few international locations) who were doing the exact same plays that night. The plays were fantastic, funny, thought-provoking, and most of all, they all were frank discussions about the issue of marriage equality penned by the top playwrights in the country including Moises Kaufman, Paul Rudnick and Neil LaBute.

Juan, and his boss, Jeana Frazzini, spoke on behalf of Basic Rights Oregon. They were joined by Caryn Brooks from Mayor Adams office. And I was lucky enough to host the evening and introduce the plays that were performed by Courtenay Hameister, Vana O'Brien, Michael Mendelson, Vin Shambry, David Bodin, Jennifer Lanier, Torrey Cornwell and John Steinkamp. The Portland production was directed by Jon Kretzu and Stephanie Mulligan.

As mandated by the contract all theaters that participate in the project must sign, the night ended with a champagne toast and wedding cake. Really good wedding cake. Word is that ART will bring the production back on a regular basis in the spring.

Psst...Courtenay and I sneaked a couple of snacks from the green room where the cast of No Man's Land is currently finishing up their run. You have nice taste in cookies, Mr. William Hurt.
