Taylor Mac, Erin Boberg Doughton, Sean Healy at TBA's The Works

TBA IS HOT: I am sort of falling in love with this year's TBA festival.

The weather is hot. The bouncy house is hot. God, even the performers are hot.

Take Taylor Mac, for example. Not only is the gender bender gorgeous both in and out of drag but Miss Mac is smart as a whip and has a flawless voice to match his peculiarly flawless wit.

One of the best lines from his 90-minute cabaret show, Comparison Is Violence or The Ziggy Stardust Meets Tiny Tim Songbookm I saw Mac perform on Friday night, a show in which he smushed the collective works of David Bowie and Tiny Tim (the singer not the classic Christmas cripple), was when he said that "everyone who masturbates is a little bit gay." So true. He had a show's worth of other pithy bon mots, but that was the one that  stuck with me. I think it was because it was the only one I could remember. Mac's monologues tend to be a roller coaster of his inner consciousness and I was just happy to be strapped into my seat and along for the ride.

Hell, I could pretty much say that about TBA too. Yes, this year's fest is a sweet, sweet ride.
