#TBA11: Night One at The Works Was AWESOME
Mike Daisey, Kristy Edmunds, John Averill, Justin Oswald, Malia Jensen, Peter Kallen and Kristan Kennedy
NIGHT LIGHTS: Time for TBA. Translated, that means, for the next several nights I will get very little sleep as I head all over town, but especially toward the old Washington High School in inner Southeast Portland to partake in all that is PICA's big event of the year, the Time Based Art Festival, and all that is "The Works."
This performance art festival's "The Works"—where food, fashion, and oh yeah, lots of performances happen— becomes the late night meeting ground for many of this city's culture vultures, especially in the "beer garden."
And Thursday night's opener was no exception. There were even a few "stars" under the stars in the beer garden including the incredible monologist Mike Daisey and PICA's former Executive Director, Kristy Edmunds, who has taken on a very cool new gig in Los Angeles.
I had a chance to visit with some friends including artists John Brodie and (PICa Visual Arts Curator ) Kristan Kennedy, Oregonian critic Marty Hughley and PICA Executive Director Victoria Frey who seemed more than ready to get her "sissy bounce" on with a few late night performers now that the festival is in full swing.
