30 Years of Fantasy: Darcelle & La Femme Magnifique

LA FEMME FANTASTIQUE: It hasn't exactly been the City of roses for Darcelle XV as of late. In fact its been downright thorny what with all that "stuff" that happened at the club a few weeks ago.
So I was very interested in how her annual Labor Day pageant to crown the "most beautiful female impersonator in the world" —La Femme Magnifique—would handle all the fuss.
And I have to tell you: that Darcelle is a class act all the way.
The pageant, held at the Oregon Convention Center, was damn near flawless—as it has always been since Darcelle and his partner, Roxy, started handing out La Femme crowns in 1982.
In honor of its 30th Anniversary many former pageant winners opened the show including Poison Waters who has such a magical way with a crowd and is really unlike anyone else in town—except perhaps Darcelle herself.
The evening seemed shorter than in previous years—that might have had something to do with having less than a dozen contestants—and it was also very tight as far production values go. No long set-ups. No big snafus. Just big costumes. And great looking gals in even better looking outfits.
It truly is, year in and year out, a sight to be seen.
As for the winners? There were two: La Femme Plus International 2011 Athena Kiss and La Femme Magnifique International 2011 Lady Chablis (both from Seattle).
And as for Darcelle. She seemed, as always, to enjoy every minute of it.
