Marissa's Musing: PP's "Dress/Undress" Fashion Show
Pulse panties by Benjamin Blak at "Dress/Undress"
I love fashion scribe Marissa Sullivan. Here's her take on a very hot fashion show that happened this week. A word of caution...some of the photos below are not very "safe for work."
DRESSED TO UNDRESS: I’d like to start out by saying that that Planned Parenthood’s "Dress/Undress" Fashion Show on Wednesday was an absolute blast. Total success and I’d venture to say the most fun I’ve had at a show in the year I’ve been in Portland attending these events.
My first impression (no pun intended) was CHEEKS. And by that I mean BOOTY.
Lots of shorty shorts from YO VINTAGE! who was first to show. Curated by Sarah Radcliff the owner of YO! with jewelry by Katie Freedle who not only designs RillRill Jewelry but also modeled the goods. RillRill is known for it’s beautiful headpieces and interesting body jewelry like a chain leg garter belt, which you can see pictured below.
Next up Golden Rule with jewelry by Kat Seale. Wynde Dyer, owner of Golden Rule, “welcomes the goods and services of both emerging and established designers, consignors, artists and subject-area specialists from near and afar” – which explains how she gets all her amazing loot. My favorite stand out piece of hers was a black embellished bustier jumper (thatsalotofwords).
The loungewear line Midge—who I told you I loved back at the Mercury Fashion show "Open Season"—was 3rd in line. What I saw: beautiful soft pieces, sexy lace tops, an amazing kimono robe that I MUST have and…BOOBS...I saw lots of them.
Heather Treadway with jewelry by Sword+Fern , and Idom both made wonderful showings with beautiful woman’s clothing most of which I would love to wear myself. But when you’re sandwiched between Studio SKB’s 2010 line “Grey Gardens” designed by Bryce Black who is currently competing on Project Runway, it’s hard to stand out. Appropriately sound-tracked by Chris Brown and Lil’ Wayne’s killer hit “Tranfsorm Ya” this part of the show was mesmerizing to anyone who has not seen his shape shifting line before. Please take a minute to look at the pictures of the “transformations” below – my mind is blown!
And last but not least the part of the show that brought the biggest smiles of the night; Benjamin Blak. Sitting next to Eden Dawn, Fashion Editor for the Portland Monthly, I whispered to her half way through the show, “Byron would’ve loved this” (sorry you missed it boss). In short my checklist was finally complete: First there were fannies, then ta-tas and last we got to see the ol’ disco sticks. Check, check, annnnddd CHECK!
