Put A Berry On It: Berry Chef Cook Off at Ecotrust Bldg
Bluehour's Bryn Robson, Berry gal Darcy Kochis, Greg Denton and Phil Oswalt at Berry Chef Cook-Off
VERY BERRY: The Oregon Berry Festival presented the first-ever Berry Chef Cook Off, Friday evening at the Ecotrust Building. And I was lucky to be one of the judges alongside berry expert/author Janie Hibler, Oregonian FOODday's Katherine Miller and Portland Picks Alisa Sloan.
The Berry Chef Cook Off closed out the first day of the Oregon Berry Festival, held in the Pearl District. A showcase for six of Portland’s top chefs it was a bit like watching Iron Chef with "secret ingredient" being Oregon berries.
Chefs competing included Chef Katherine Whitehead – Aviary, Chef Gregory Denton - Metrovino, Chef Michael Stanton - Heathman Restaurant, Chef Phil Oswalt - Multnomah Athletic Club, Chef Bryn Robson - Bluehour Restaurant and Chef Michael Wilkinson - Trebol Restaurant. And their dishes ran the gamut of savory to sweet including Denton's crowd fave with salted popcorn and shrimp, Oswalt's pastrami and berry sammie, and Robson's sweet treat with trout that landed the judges top prize.
