Making The Green Scene: PDX Chefs at Farmers Market
Allison Jones and Gregory Gourdet at Portland's Farmers Market
CHEW VIEW: What do Portland's top chefs do with their weekends? If any indication of the short time I spent at Portland's Farmers Market on Saturday morning, it looks like they shop for green groceries. Maybe they had all gathered there because Departure Chef Gregory Gourdet was whipping up some great prawn and baby carrot dish at the Portland Monthly sponsored chef demonstration station. Or maybe they were just stocking up on supplies. But, gawd, in a period of about five minutes, I saw several of the best in town including Genoa's David Anderson, Ned Ludd's Jason French, Tabla's Anthony Cafiero, Tim Boyce and Beast's Naomi Pomeroy fresh from her "exit interview" with The Oregonian's favorite vegan, Grant Butler, regarding her appearance on Top Chef Masters. Also at the market: PoMo's Allison Jones and former Food Networker-now-Portland-publicist Carrie Welch with her wife and fellow foodie Jannie Huang.
