Hawt, Hot Lunch: Boke Bowl at Yakuza Pub
Boke Bowl's Chef Patrick Fleming, Yakuza's Dayna McErlean, Tim Parsons, and Boke Boys
BOKE IT TO ME: Recently I had a chance to sit my ass down to the "Boke Bowl" experience and, let me tell you, it was good. Very good.
So, Boke Bowl is a pop-up noodle shop. Chef Patrick Fleming invades all sorts of dining establishments to serve up all sorts of pickles, steam buns, ramens and side dishes of kimchi as well as boke twinkies.
I had my first taste of Boke goodness at Yakuza.
Owner Dayna McErlean opened up Yakuza for lunch, when the pub is usually closed, just for the Boke boys (sidenote: when the announcement was made on bokebowl.com all the reservations for the Memorial Day lunch were snatched up in less than a half-hour). Juan and I joined some friends and had quite the lunch. Now, they don't put a bird on everything, although you can get fried chicken on top of your ramen as well as pork belly and slow-poached eggs. I had my seafood miso with cornmeal-crusted oysters. In one word: heaven.
So if you get an invite to a Boke Bowl lunch I would suggest you give it a try. It's that good.
