EAT. DRINK. GIVE: The Taste of the Nation event, to support the end of childhood hunger, features food and drink from the nation's hottest chefs and mixologists and takes place in several cities throughout the country.
Last night Share Our Strength's 24th annual Taste of the Nation Portland happened in the luxurious confines of Northeast's Luxe Autohaus. It featured not only appearances by Mayor Sam Adams and Governor John Kitzhaber, but also by his girlfriend, Cylvia Hayes, an ardent supporter of Share Our Strength.
A rare opportunity to gather each year and taste the best our area restaurants have to offer in support of ending hunger it seemed like every chef in town was represented: Beast's Naomi Pomeroy, Accanto's Daniel Mondok and David Anderson, Gilt Club's Chris Carriker, Aviary's Jasper Shen, Nostrana's Cathy Whims, Wildwood's Dustin Clark and many, many more. Our top chefs were all strategically laid out throughout the expansive space and in between booths that included our regions top wines, beers and spirits as well. In one word it was "delicious."
The night went off without a hitch...well, almost. According to sources that were there, early in the evening an accident happened when the crew from Metrovino was setting up their station. A fire erupted and one of the individuals who was helping out that night, Metrovino chef Greg Denton's wife, Chef de Cuisine Gabrielle Quiñónez, was injured. It was a scary moment for everyone who was there. The photo above, taken by Tim Parsons, shows Denton near the fire. We all wish Gabrielle a speedy recovery.
