Ali Jepson, Mike Thelin, Greg Gourdet and Bo Kwon at Foodportunity at The Heathman
THE DISH: Just like last year's big shindig, Foodportunity, gathered a who's who in the local culinary world from both Portland and Seattle (where Foodportunity's founder, Keren Brown, calls home) to spill, chill and generally grill each other about the Northwest cuisine scene.
Chefs include Aaron Barnett from St. Jack's, Greg Gourdet from Departure, Heathman head honcho Philippe Boulot, Koifusion's Bo Kwon and Jenn Louis from Lincoln among others.
Food bloggers, like Jennifer Heigl from Daily Blender, mingled with food publicists including Watershed's (and former Mix editor) Martha Holmberg.
I was incredibly fascinated by one of the new people at Broussard Communications, Carrie Welch, who recently moved to Portland from New York where she was previously the Vice President of Public Relations for Food Network and where she helped to launch shows for chefs including Rachael Ray, Giada de Laurentiis, Paula Deen and Duff Goldman. Welch was a welcome addition to Foodportunity's panel discussion regarding social media led by event guy Mike Thelin that included Metrovino's Greg Denton and Kenny & Zuke's Nick Zukin.
At the end of the night I, once again, had the wonderful opportunity to "blow the whistle" on the whole night by emceeing the "speed networking" section of the evening. As always it was chaos, but it was also a great way to meet people in the food industry, as is Foodportunity. Can't wait until the next one!
