"Chefs Move to Schools" Open House at Genoa
Twin chefs Raymond and David Anderson at "Chefs Move To Schools" Open House
*Just posted this over at Eater PDX:
HAUTE LUNCH: PDX chefs are going back to school. That is, if Michelle Obama, and her anti-obesity campaign, "Let's Move," has anything to say about it.
Following in the First Lady's footsteps, various local chefs — including Scott Neuman (Oba), Jason French (Ned Ludd), and twin chef/brothers Raymond and David Anderson (Nuestra Cocina and Genoa) — joined with Ellen Damaschino (national training manager, Cooking Matters and former co-chair of Portland's Taste of the Nation) and Gitta Grether Sweeny (Director of Nutritional Services for Portland Public Schools) among others for an open house at Genoa on Presidents Day for "Chefs Move To Schools."
This nationally-based program hopes to pair local chefs with local schools in an attempt to show kids that tots don't always have to come in "tater" form. As the Anderson brothers, who have both visited local schools, noted at the eat-and-greet: "kids today want to be chefs today in the same way we wanted to be firemen and astronauts. We want to show them how cool it is to cook with fresh ingredients out of their own gardens."
*Here are a few pics that I didn't get to post on Eater. And I should mention here how much I enjoyed listening to Ned Ludd's Jason French use his "outside words" with this insider-ish primarily public school crowd...O.M.G.
