BEACHY KEEN: Former city commissioners don't disappear. They just go to yacht clubs. Well, I guess they may do other things but yesterday I caught three of them—Mayor Bud Clark and City Commissioners Mike Lindberg and Charlie Hales—at the Portland Yacht Club for the Upriver Adventure Party held in honor of Astoria Oregon's upcoming Bicentennial in 2011. Nearly 300 citizens from Portland and the North Coast gathered to celebrate the momentous ocassion as well as listen to a presentation regarding Astoria's new Classical Chinese Garden, a compelling talk by filmmaker Rex Ziak, dine on salmon and bid on auction items including an amazing crown from Cargo. And as for the mayor of Astoria, Willis Van Dusen, who was one of the hosts of the event alongside Jordan Schnitzer, well that guy can come to a party anytime. Willis is a hoot-and-a-half.
