Happy 40 Thomas: Surprising Tommy Lauderdale In Style
That's Juan Martinez and me inside the "birthday present" at the Leftbank Annex
GREASED LIGHTNING: The Leftbank Annex was the site for a GIANT surprise for Thomas Lauderdale that's been months in the making.
For the last several weeks, under the covert supervision of his partner, Philip Iosca, friends of Portland's sweetest bandleader pitched in to help restore Thomas' much beat-up but much-beloved 1959 Nash Metropolitan to mint condition.
His "new" Nash was unveiled at a super secret party in honor of his 40th birthday on Tuesday night with music by Sneakin' Out, Chevrona, DJ Shines and Solomon DJ. Snacks came via Christopher Israel, Bon Appetit and Saint Cupcake.
And, boy, was Thomas surprised. In fact, he was so surprised that when he realized what Philip and his friends had done, he just smiled and didn't say a word. It's the first time I think I've ever seen Thomas speechless.
Following the unveiling everyone had a chance to get their picture snapped in the car by Chris Hornbecker of the thegreatestphotobooth.com. What a great party.
