Sweet Tweets: PDX Social Media Club at Lola's Room
Paul Barron and Gilt Club's Jamie Dunn at Lola's Room
SOCIAL-IZING: The Social Media Club of Portland gathered together on Thursday night at Lola's Room to find out how social media is transforming restaurants and hospitality brands. Did you know that less than 10-percent of U.S. restaurants have embraced the social web? Neither did I.
But Paul Barron does. Boy, does he ever.
Barron (who told me he gets a whopping three hours of sleep a night) is the publisher of Fast Casual Magazine, an Alltop-featured blogger at SocialCoco.com, and was just named the top U.S. social media influencer in the hospitality industry by Restaurant Reality Check blog. He's also actively engaged with the boards of both the National Restaurant Association and Share Our Strength.
In a nutshell Barron, who came here all the way from Florida to share his thoughts, top three tips regarding social media are:
1. get your hands dirty and get involved.
2. tell a story.
3. make sure you know your followers/readers/customers.

Thanks so much for coming to the Social Media Club event and snapping these fabulous pictures. I think if you hold up a shot of Miss Piggy next to that glam shot of me in your rockstar sunglasses, you'll see there is hardly a perceivable difference. ;-)
