UPDATE: Well, damn, look at what I missed because I did not stick around for the show: a Portland connection to the premiere!  Hat tip to WW's Kelly Clarke.

MAD MEMORIES: Despite the heatwave currently cruising through Portland, ladies and gents donned their best skinny "Don Draper" suits and "Peggy" or "Betty" -inspired vintage gowns and made their way to the Gypsy Restaurant and Velvet Lounge on Northwest 21st Avenue Sunday night for the premiere of the latest season of "Mad Men" (just one of several kick-off'ers that were being held across the city, state and country).

Cocktail jazz with the Carri Bella Combo (featuring social media gadfly Carrie Bugbee) was accompanied by Velveeta on Ritz crackers (with pimentos!) and retro-cocktails (think minty Grasshoppers). And a big costume contest was held just prior to the season premiere. Yeah, it was cool.
