Portland Farmers Market: Chefs Really Do Shop Here!

Tabla's Anthony Cafiero at Portland Farmers Market
SATURDAY SHOPPERS: If you ever want to see several of Portland's top chefs in one place—at the same time—then get up early on a Saturday morn and head to Portland Farmers Market at Portland State University. This week was the first time I went to that market before 10 am, and a in a period of say, about fifteen minutes, I saw at least four of Portland's most well-known chefs—including Beast's Naomi Pomeroy, Tabla's Anthony Cafiero, Cafe Nell's Andrew Garrett and Departure's Gregory Gourdet—all weaving their way through the packed crowd. Perhaps they were there for the sour cherries from Maryhill Farms (a five pound bag of these puckery suckers cost $30). Now, not all of them were exactly in the mood to talk as they gathered items for the evening meal at their assorted eateries, but they were more than willing to let me snap a photo (thanks guys).
