HAUTE DOGS: Last week a group of beautiful four-legged friends gathered at the Hotel Monaco to compete at the third annual Next Top Dog Model Contest to benefit the Oregon Humane Society. Sponsored by LexiDog Boutique and the Hotel Monaco the top ten small dog and large dog finalists competed for a prize package valued at nearly $1,000 each at this one-of-a-kind canine model showdown (one of the contestants included a Yorkie named "Remy" who's owner was none other than KGW-TV's wind-challenged reporter Keely Chalmers above).

The big winners included "Rhett," a beautifully dressed 8-year-old black and tan coon dog and "Tigger," a 10-year-old Pomeranian that looked like a teddy bear. As a judge for the contest it was very difficult to pick a top dog out of this bow-wow-ing bunch. The families and friends of each contestant made it clear that their pooch should take the top prize. But both dogs who won have seen their share of challenges including several return visits to the pound for Rhett and health conditions for Tigger, so it was great to acknowledge two companions that really deserved recognition, even though I thought they should've all won.
