PostHeaderIcon Movie Time: Meet The Director of Meet Jane Doe

KICK THIS FILM: Jacqueline Gault is making a movie called Meet Jane Doe. And she's looking for a little help.

At least that what it sounds like from this morning's email. I think Gault meant to say "big" instead of "pig," but you get her drift: "I'm going to be doing a pig push this week to try and get the remaining funding (needed) for Meet Jane Doe's Kickstarter campaign. While it's not our only source of funding, it is an important one in that it shows our investors that we have community support behind the project...I have until Friday to raise an additional $20k. Basically I need 200 people to donate $100 each. Seems doable, right?"

So in honor of her efforts I thought I could do a quick question and answer session with Gault (above center) so could share with everyone a little background on the project.

Who is Jane Doe and why should we meet her?

Jane Doe is meeting herself. The story explores what happens when a child experiences trauma in their youth and grows up to discover that their demons can manifest in surprising and even unknown ways. Jane thinks she knows who she is, but she harbors a dark secret that even she herself isn't consciously aware of. It's a psychological thriller with a surprise twist ending.

I am the screenwriter, director, and actor. I began writing MJD less than a year ago out of frustration that there were very few solid roles for women. As a writer myself I knew I could write an amazing story that centered around a group of strong female characters - however I did NOT want it to be a chick flick. It is not a chick flick.

What is unique about this project in regards to Portland and the state of Oregon?
The film is written to be based in Oregon - we are filming at several Portland businesses - Dante's, Green Frog Toys, Grand Central Bowling - and pending completion of financing we will be applying for the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund. Our cast and crew are 90% Oregon based.

Are there any recognizable names in the film?
There are names in the film that are recognizable locally - Audrey Walker, Tara Dublin (it's her film debut), Kit Koenig, Bob McKeehen - amazing local talent. I'm in negotiations with other talent for cameo roles. We are also in the process of bringing in Todd Robinson to help produce. I have been mentored by Robert Blanche, Todd Freeman and James Westby, to name a few.

When will you be filming and when do you hope to have it done and out to the theaters?
We start filming on July 18th. We wrap on August 11th with our final big scenes at Dante's - writing original music and have over-the-top costume and choreography for one of the lead characters. We plan to hit the festival circuit in early 2011.

Yes, I did mean "big"... That's what happens when my fingers push send before my brain thinks to edit!
