BRING ON THE FUNK: If the Oregon Children's Theater Imagination Luncheon was, well, a little bit funky that was because The Decemberist's Chris Funk and Ellora Vilkin brought down the house—in the case, the ballroom of the ever glamorous The Nines—with a rousing rendition of one of the song's featured in OCT's recent production of "Small Steps." That's Funk pictured above with OCT Young Professional Johnny Crawford who greeted the assembled crowd with a hearty: "Hello, adult people." I was grateful that OCT's Artistic Director Stan Foote (who guided me recently through my role as the "narrator" in a production of "The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later") invited me to the annual luncheon. That way I had a chance to see longtime arts advocate, Virginia Willard, receive an award for her valuable contribution to this and other very worthwhile causes.
