PostHeaderIcon Senior Sneak: Gay & Grey & Going All The Way

KGW's Tracy Barry sitting down to interview Mya Chamberlin, Director of Safety Net Services at Friendly House.

Going Grey: If I am lucky I will grow to be old, grey and, oh yeah, gay. Thank goodness for groups like Gay and Grey PDX.  My friend Martha Wright has informed that the senior-friendly group has a big event lined up this weekend with attendees including Mayor Sam Adams. Here are all the details:

There are an estimated 10,000 LGBTQI seniors in Metro Portland, and that number is growing, as baby-boomers retire.  LGBTQI seniors are five times less likely than their heterosexual peers to seek services, and more likely to live alone, often lacking adequate family support networks.

Enter Gay & Grey PDX, an dynamic outreach event addressing the social, health, and housing needs of sexual-minority seniors!  Think resource fair with free blood pressure checks, glucose screenings and chair massages, expert panelists and break-out sessions on Housing and Long Term Care options, door prizes and a rocking after-party at Q Center (with DJ, wine donated by Hip Chicks Do Wine, beer donated by Ninkasi Beer, and food donated by Whole Foods).  Gay & Grey PDX is hosted by Friendly House in partnership with Providence ElderPlace and Q Center .
Gay & Grey PDX: 10 am- 2pm Saturday, May 22nd, Friendly House (corner NW 26th Ave. and Thurman St.); After-party, 3-5 pm at Q Center (4115 N. Mississippi Ave.). Free!
