TIME FLIES: A year ago today I was let go from a job I loved.

So, why am I writing about it now?

Well, anniversaries tend to wake up emotions/thoughts/dreams that may be better left unsaid.

But I've never been one to keep my mouth shut.

So, do I still miss my job?

Sure.

If given the chance, would I ever go back to my old gig?

No.

It's really that simple. And that difficult.

You see I wouldn't trade the last year of my life for anything.

I've had the chance to do things that I don't think I would've done if I was still on the "clock."

Run.

Spend time with my dog in the last year of his life.

Breathe.

Spend time with my friends and family.

Think. Before I speak (I still have a problem with that one).

And I've had the chance to create a couple of blogs. Since late last November I've had around 100,000 visits to this and my previous site.

Still, writing for the Internet is akin to community theater: it's great to be part of something and you're grateful for the opportunity to share your craft with a crowd, but the pay can be crap and sometimes you feel like you're missing out on all the action on the "big stage."

That said, when it works and you are on a roll, it can be very gratifying, and dare I say, thrilling.

I think my job, right now, is to continue to discover the possibilities of blogging...and twittering...and stumbleupon....and whatever new socially-engaged gadget comes along.

At the same time I will continue to support the efforts of something I truly believe in: the business of news, telling people's stories and getting the scoop on what is new and thought-provoking.

This last year has been an interesting ride. And thanks to all of you who have joined me on it. Who knows what the next one will hold. Let us hope it's a good one.
