PostHeaderIcon Tell It Like It Is: Oregon's Own Mr. Bean Gets a Shout Out From The Prez.

OUR OBAMA: When President Barack Obama spoke at the Human Rights Campaign Annual Dinner in Washington D.C. on Saturday night, he spoke of many things: of "opening" for Lady Gaga, pledging his support for GLBT rights, of pushing hard to pass an inclusive employee non-discrimination bill.

But perhaps the most buzzed about message of the night was his pledge to end the military's unjust Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy.

"I am working with the Pentagon, its leadership and members of the House and Senate to end this policy. I will end Don't Ask, Don't Tell. That is my commitment to you."

Early in the speech, before he made those remarks, he gave his first two shout outs to two people I consider friends.

First was HRC Executive Director Joe Solmonese.

And the other was Oregon's own political powerhouse: Terry Bean.

THE PRESIDENT:  Thank you, everybody.  Please, you're making me blush.  (Laughter.)

AUDIENCE MEMBER:  We love you, Barack!

THE PRESIDENT:  I love you back.  (Applause.)

To Joe Solmonese, who's doing an outstanding job on behalf of HRC.  (Applause.)  To my great friend and supporter, Terry Bean, co-founder of HRC.  (Applause.)...(read the full transcript of the speech here)

Now how cool is that?

It makes me proud to know that an Oregon native who has worked for glbt rights is finally getting the recognition he so rightly deserves.

Here is the first ten minutes of the President's speech in which Terry's name pops up:
