PostHeaderIcon Magic Viva: Celeb Reading With Strippers

Viva Las Vegas is a rock star. She's also a stripper.  A cancer survivor. A friend.

And, now, it looks like she just might become a world-famous author.

Portlanders got a peek at this illustrious lady's way with words on Tuesday night at Dante's.

That's when a slew of celebs stormed the stage to read from Viva's new book, Magic Gardens: The Memoirs of Viva Las Vegas

Savvy local-ites already know that Viva could write via her revealing piece about breast cancer in the pages of Portland Monthly

But for those gathered at Dante's this was the first time to hear her prose read aloud.

And, man, did she gather an exceptional cast to speak her words.

"Readers" that night included Dandy Warhol's front-man Courtney Taylor-Taylor. Artist Miss Mona Superhero. Rock critic Richard Meltzer. Portland's "unofficial poet laureate" Walt Curtis. The real (and ever-gorgeous) Pennie Lane. And the one and only Storm Large who read a bit about Viva receiving "career counseling" from Willamette Week's Mark Zusman

There was also plenty o' strippers.

In fact, the owner of Portland's oldest topless establishment, Vicki Keller, said it felt like a "Mary's Club family reunion."

Alongside the gorgeous gals were others out to support including the Parson Boys, John and David, Chris Monlux, David Walker, Gus Van Sant (pictured above getting a kiss from Viva) Renee Field, and The Porcelain Twinz.

It was a great night.
