Bombay Sapphire/GQ Most Imaginative Bartender Contest
Drink Twins, Jabriel Donohue, Dave Shenaut and winner Nathan Gerdes of Kask
DRINK UP: The U.S. Bartenders' Guild Bombay Sapphire/GQ Most Imaginative Bartender Competition was held on Monday night at hot Portland boite spot, Saucebox. I was lucky enough to be one of the judges (no, I am not quite sure how I was picked either) alongside such local luminaries as the Oregon Bartender's Guild Dave Shenaut and Jabriel Donohue as well as San Francisco's drink king Duggan McDonnell.
For the contest a team of experts sorted through a TON of submissions and narrowed it down to 10 finalists for Portland including Adam Ho/Luc Lac Kitchen, Andrew Kualaau/Heathman Restaurant, Art Tierce/Teardrop Lounge, Chino Lee/Departure, Connor Mansager/The Bent Brick, Jake Bliven/Sweet Basil Thai, Jeanette Adames-Napier/WXYZ Bar, Joe Frade/Pink Rose, Michael Anderson/Circa 33 and the winner of the competition Nathan Gerdes of Kask who made a drink with Bombay Sapphire called "Castor and Pollux." Nathan will now represent Portland in a national competition to be held in Las Vegas later this year. Go Nathan!
