CRUISING TIME: Here are my notes from Sat., June 2, 2012.
8 am: Leave Hotel Exedra in Rome, Italy.
10 am: Arrive to the yacht in the seaside port of Civitavecchia, Italy.
1 pm: Greet fellow guests joining the cruise.
2 pm: Jump in the hot tub. Grab a second glass of Sokol Blosser Evolution wine.
That pretty much summed up my first full day in Europe.
And what a day it was. Our Fine Food and Wine Cruise was a dream come true.
The ship—actually the "Wind Surf" is a yacht—is part of the Windstar Line and, since it was a private charter, the boat was entirely devoted to our needs over the next week. There were 205 crew members for 175 guests. And, on board, was over 3,000 bottles of wine from Oregon's own Sokol Blosser and Napa's Delectus Winery.
Oh, yes, we had a great time.
Our first day was full of safety drills, spa demos (where we had our first view of "Ivan, The Great" a massage therapist from, I think, the Ukraine), and the Captain's Welcoming Cocktail Party (Capt. Anlan MacAry looked incredibly young) followed by a sunset dinner on the stern of the boat.
We ended the night very late, under the moon and stars, back in the hot tub. There were 8 of us in the hot tub.
Eventually we made it to our spacious cabin where we watched Bridesmaids. And had one more glass of wine.
On Sunday, we were hitting Sorrento...hard.
