LITERARY GLITTERATI: If you were at Lois Leeven's reading on Friday night, you know that her new book, The Secrets of Mary Bowser, is blowing up big. The Burnside Powell's sold out of the book, and the Hawthorne location is also close to or already sold out.
I had a chance to see a copy of the book (as well as a few Emmys) at the home of Lois's good friends, Bill Oakley and Rachel Pulido Oakley, who hosted a little get together in honor of the true-life tale about a free slave who went back into Virginia to spy for the Union at Jefferson Davis' house during the Civil War.
Party guests at the Oakley home (Bill works on Portlandia and was an award-winning show-runner for The Simpsons' and Rachel was a former Simpsons writer) included several other authors including Peter Ames Carlin who is just finishing up his bio on Bruce Springsteen as well as Daniel H. Wilson, the author of Robopocalypse which Steven Spielberg is said to be just weeks away from beginning filming on a blockbuster version of the book.
