Party Crowd: BarFly Awards 2012 at Mt. Tabor Theater
Revelers in and outside the Mt. Tabor at BarFly Awards
AND THE LOSER IS: Sooooo...I didn't win. And I didn't expect to win.
That is, the award for "Most Good Writer" at the 2012 BarFly Awards held at the Mt. Tabor Theater late Sunday night. I was up against my friends and colleagues, Bobby Roberts of Cort and Fatboy fame, David Walker of BadAssMoFo and Sarah Mirk of The Portland Mercury.
Sarah won, and deservedly so. She's a good writer.
As for the award ceremony itself, well, it's always a bit of a drunken mess—but in a good way. And, what else would you really expect from BarFly?
I truly enjoyed seeing my friends win, including Cort and Fatboy for "Terrificest T.J." for their bi-weekly "Geek Trivia" (I was supposed to go up and accept the award on their behalf but I just couldn't do it) as well as watching BarFly goddess Jen Lane give out the awards with the help of some local wrestling dude with "Doctor" in his name, and who just so happened to be wearing the smallest part of trunks I've ever seen. All night I couldn't help but stare at the "snake" in his pants. It was HUGE. And just like the BarFly Awards, probably something that I will never get to touch.
