Diego On The Go: Shortlandia at Hollywood Theater
Tara Johnson Medinger and Jacqueline Gault at Shortlandia fest
Diego likes movie fests...especially short ones. Here his take on a recent on held at the Hollywood Theater.
Shortlandia: Who likes short shorts? We do!
The inaugural “Shortlandia” was a success! Seven shorts, a good crowd and one heck of a pillow fight!
The seven shorts where not all on a specific topic: Drama, Revenge, Action, a Pretend Trailer, Friendship and Temptation. Though all seven shorts were great, two stood out with the crowd…
The first is Thieves starring Christian Lagadec, Chris Harder, Dennis Fitzpatrick, Oliva Shimkus. Thieves is a story of two …well, thieves…each at a different skill level, who by chance break into the same house one night but manage to stay out of each others hair. The film is funny, smart and the music really helps to set the mood as there is no dialogue ( think “The Artist”). Drawing inspiration from the Pixar shorts, I could definitely see the two Thieves characters in many more escapades ala Spy vs. Spy.
The Second is Pillow Fight starring Alyssa Roehrenbeck and Kori Schagunn.
Writer Hollie Olson simply wrote “a pillow fight ala Kill Bill” and handed the script to Director Chris R. Wilson. Well, seems as if that was good enough. Pillow Fight is a fun, action packed, short film about two sisters who get into an epic pillow fight after one is not happy about a make up choice made by the other, you know, like sisters often do…
Shortlandia is the brain child of Jacqueline Gault. After mentioning the idea of screening her own short at the Hollywood Theater, Dinner Party, another Director showed interest in tagging along for the ride, Jacqueline thought, why not open it up to other Directors? and Boom! “Shortlandia” was born.
“The people of Portlandia make great short films. From established filmmakers to fresh, green talent, we scour the city for the best of the best and we present it to you four times per year. Every quarter - in March, June, September and December - Shortlandia will bring you some amazing films created right here in our wacky city by filmmakers who represent the creme de la creme of Portland filmmakers!” -Jacqueline Gault

|98.246.149.xxx |2012-03-29 14:16:24 Margie Boule - They should give a discount......or free admission to short people. Put a yardstick right on the wall, and anybody under 5'2 gets in free. They'd bring their differently-statured friends who'd pay, of course. Might be a fun gimmick to attract more folks.
