GALA PALS: It was quite the night of dancing at the Q Center's Winter Gala at YU.
And why wouldn't it be with such musicians as Lisa Mann, Hal Gerard, Amaya Villazan and Aaron Altemose performing, and the one and only Bob Mould, of Husker Du fame, spinning on the turntables?
In fact the whole night had me spinning. This party was a big departure from previous Q Center galas, in support of Portland's LGBTQ community center, which have always been held downtown at The Nines Hotel. This year's fete was held in a soon-to-be contemporary art space known as the YU Building in inner Southeast Portland. Although it was a bit nippy inside the space (thank god we had so many "bears" there to keep us warm), the arched windows and white walls fit the "Never Out of Style" theme perfectly and, my good friend, Shannon Pratuch, carried out the theme in a black and white ensemble that nabbed her the "Holly Go-Lightly" lookalike prize. The evening was hosted by KGW news anchors Stephanie Stricklen and Reggie Aqui who lit up the room with their charming ways, as did honorary co-chairs, Roey Thorpe and Bill Dickey. It was also great to see Mayor Sam Adams at the gala. Our mayor always loves a good dance party, and this night was a great night for doing just that.
